A lazy yawn escaped her as she glanced over at Nala, noting the slight tension between her and the other lioness. Though it was quite obvious it wasn't an actual problem, everyone automatically assumed that Nala was fragile and needed constant pampering. She knew her daughter in law better then that, she had been raised mostly in the Shadow times, and thus she was tough. You had to be tough to survive during such a time, a lot of the pride's cubs had died during Scar's time on the throne. "Simba is still learning how to be a King, much less a husband and father. You have to give him a bit of slack.. he was raised far from here." Sarabi knew that in due time her son would be a wonderful leader for the Pride Lands. He had so much to catch up on, so many lessons he had missed. It was enough to make one's head spin.
When she first heard that her son was raised by a warthog and a meerkat, all she could think of doing was laughing. It was hilarious. Being raised by animals that most would see as food. Now those two were permanent members of the pride, seen as the uncles and grandfathers of the pride's cubs. She listened as the talk of a hunt started, they still had to leave the Pride Lands to hunt. No animals were allowed to be hunted currently, not until the herds had regrown and were once more stable. The thought of hunting peeked her interest and she turned to look at both of the other females. "I'd love to hunt again, it's been so long and I'm getting rusty."
Sarabi had once been happy to never hunt again, but time had passed. Scar was long gone and things were returning to normal. As she thought about the tyrant her mind slowly drifted to Zira and her family. She loved all of Zira's cubs almost like they were her family, and it hurt that they were going through their own tragedy. Zira had become distant since her son's return and it was a rare moment to even catch her to speak. Sarabi knew better then anyone how heart broken she must have been.
She didn't fault Zira for anything, seeing that she had done all she could to help the pride survive. Taking hunt parties out for weeks on end to find a meal for the pride. Nuka had been a dear sweet little boy even if his father disapproved of him. In her eyes hed plenty of potential, and she always tried to get him to see it as well. Sarabi had also been very attached to Zira's youngest son a cub named Kovu. He was a dear little thing. Even though he looked a lot like his father. All she could do was hope. Hope that in time Zira would understand or perhaps her son could make peace or try to.
"Have you talked to Zira lately? I haven't seen her or heard from her much since Simba returned. I know she's still in the territory but she stays far away from Pride Rock now.. The same with her cubs. I hope Nuka is doing alright.." She hoped that Nala knew something. Hopefully anything.. Sarabi's attention fell on the watering hole as a large herd of zebra approached for a drink. Ruby eyes then fell on Umeme hoping that eventually she would join them in the shade. The heat was just to much today.

If she was being honest with herself she was not surprised by the company. Though she was a bit curious as to why Nala was out and about so soon after giving birth. She frowned slightly a concerned look on her face as she looked the younger lioness over. Sarabi smiled and returned the nuzzles with open affection for the other female. "Good morning honey tree, how are you feeling?" She questioned softly her deep voice rumbling in her chest. Taking a moment to look around she was surprised that her son had not tagged along with his mate. Simba was rather over protective of her and would often be Nala's shadow. Surely that had to annoy her.. She was a strong lioness she didn't need a chaperone.
"Needed a break from the den?" She asked her with a slight laugh, it was annoying being on den rest. When she had Simba. the same thing happened. The birth was hard on her, and she had bled to much. Rafiki had demanded that she remained in the den until fully healed. Much to her horror, her mate had stationed himself at the entrance of the den and would not allow her to leave. It had been the longest time in her life thus far. Finally she was given approval to return to royal duties which she did with gusto. The second time she had given birth had been much easier. Hopefully if Nala were to have more in the future it would be easier on her.
The crunching of grass made her tense for a moment before her eyes fell on the lioness. Umeme. A gentle smile crossed her face as she returned the nod. "Come join us hun, it's going to get hot today no need to stand in the sun." Sarabi invited her warmly before lowering her head to rest on the cool ground. It was nice that life was returning to normal. She just hoped that the peace remained.

She never dreamed she would have lived long enough to see the Pride Lands come back to life. For all intensive purposes she thought the drought was going to kill her, like it had so many others. Now it all seemed to be a distant memory, a bad one at that. Green grass was beginning to sprout from the dirt, leaves blooming on the trees. With a new King on the throne the Circle of Life seemed to return as well. The hyena clan had quietly vacated the territory and the herds were slowly returning. Sarabi was silently grateful that she wouldn't have to feel guilty all the time for hunting the meager herds. As the sun rose over the horizon the lioness had went out on a stroll.
Having freedom was something was getting used to again. Scar had never allowed the lionesses freedom to roam as they wished. Instead he had kept the entire pride together in a small cave. It had been hell. A shudder ran down her spine for a moment, the memories all to fresh for her. Life had been nothing more then hunting and sleeping for so very long. There had been no time for anything else. With no particular direction in mind, Sarabi set off on her morning walk. She wound the paths was ease, her brain remembering it all without having to look.
Soon enough she found herself at the vast watering hole, the morning sunlight evaporating the dew on the grass. Sarabi moved to the edge of water and bent to lap down the coolness. It felt so good on her parched throat. Filling her belly with the refreshing water the lioness walked lazily to a nearby tree to relax. As she rested she watched the watering hole content to see the other animals drinking. Everyone seemed at ease now that life was returning to normal.
Sarabi had wished for this so many times. So many days she had prayed to the spirits and kings for some sort of help. Now it was all a bad dream. She only wished that Mufasa was here to share this with her.
