Sleep had become somewhat elusive since the clan had been forcefully removed from the Pride Lands. They as a whole suffered many causalities and now were far smaller, over seventy five percent of the clan had either died in the fire or ran away. She had remained behind in the hopes of life someday returning to normal. N'tombi was also one of the very rare hyena that didn't mind being alone. She enjoyed time with her kind but she also enjoyed the solitary life. Yawning softly, she stretched out each of her limbs as she came upon the den. A place that had been vacant until recently, but by the smell it still seemed empty. Maybe there was no one here now? "You sure this is a good idea? Jalia isn't sure." Her eyes fell down towards her constant companion, a cape fox.
Jalia had become her shadow some time ago when she saved her from a snake. She had vowed to repay her somehow and decided to follow her. At first N'tombi had hated the idea of having a companion but the little fox had warmed her way into the hyena's cold dead heart. "It should be safe, as far as I'm aware Shenzi is still the matriarch." There had been no news on who was the clan's leader, so she assumed Shenzi was still alive and kicking. Drawing in a deep breath the hyena stepped into the den. A place she found horribly familiar, it made her heart clench. So many memories were here, growing up here with her family.
"Jalia hopes so.. Jalia doesn't want to be chased." A slight frown crossed N'tombi's face as she glanced at her friend. She wouldn't let harm come to her, and she honestly hoped it wouldn't come to that. "Stay close." She stated softly as the duo walked along in search of a safe place to sleep. Hiding away was usually the smartest thing to do when one wasn't the apex predator. Now that the clan was decimated she knew it was best to make herself small.
It didn't take her very long to find a huge elephant skull, long forgotten and rotten. She sniffed around the skull but found nothing to scare her away. Casually, she sprayed around the skull marking it as her home, at least for now. N'tombi walked inside first to make sure there was no surprises inside. Luckily she found nothing, "It's safe Jalia." The fox immediately entered and kept close as she moved to the darkest part of the skull.
Deep inside where no light touched, it would keep the hidden from anyone walking on by. With a heavy sigh, the shaman dropped to the earth. She curled slightly and got comfortable, Jalia crawled up onto her back and curled as well. It didn't take very long for the duo to fall asleep, feeling safe in their new home.

The noise was distinctive enough, something heavy being dragged and accompanying footfalls. Mstari was tried from the hunt and the traveling. Her paws hurt, her legs hurt, but most of all her neck would be aching for days after, as it took the brunt of lifting the adolescent zebra carcass. After she found an open area, she let the body loll to the ground, the headless neck spiriting just a little from the major arteries.
It was rare for anything edible to wonder into the territory, simply because prey too had little to eat. The food chain was splintered and life was difficult. That was why Mstari had stolen her catch. It was wrong for the lions to horde the fertile land to themselves. She had no regards for their self-serving borders; the only regard she had was to take care not to be caught. She avoided being spotted because they were ruthless murders— Mstari knew that better than most. The Pride Landers took everything from her; she owed them nothing.
Her ashen legs hovered over the cold carcass while she was lost for a time in her head. Her eyes felt dry and hot, resisting the coming of tears. The trauma had happened so recently, Mstari hadn’t even begun to recover. Hunting was a momentary release of rage, but now that it was over—
Mstari fell into a half sit, legs suddenly subject to tremors. There was a part of her that wanted not to be seen as a cub, and be strong in the face was what happened like adults, but she cracked when an overwhelming sorrow took her. What exactly her emotions were was misty, but they were powerful and made her forget her surroundings for the moment.

Time had ceased to exist at least for now, N'tombi was unaware of how long they had slept. Her nose wriggled slightly as the familiar scent of meat and blood tickled her senses. For a few minutes longer the hyena remained deep asleep. Her small companion fast asleep tucked close to her side, snoring away. The scent of food continued to tantalize her senses, another shift and nose wiggle. Finally, after a few more moments one of her eyes cracked open to look around the dark cavern. It took her a few minutes to gather her wits, and soon she noted the other hyena in the massive den. N'tombi wasn't sure who this was, the clan had remained pretty scattered since the death of the red king. Everyone was skittish and the idea of being together was a scary one.
She watched this unknown figure for a unknown amount of time. Remaining silent as she just stared at the other hyena. Obviously this female was young and strong, and her emotions were just as strong. Many had struggled with what had happened. The clan had been cut down by more then half. Those lions had slaughtered so many of her clan mates, it was even hard to begin to comprehend it. They had made sure it would take a very long time for the clan to rise to power again. If it ever even did. After escaping the pride lands and the raging fire, they had begun to fought among themselves. Trying to find a new future. Shenzi had never really given up her power, and instead had said she was still the reigning matriarch.
N'tombi had no drive for power. Her own skills had been that of healing and speaking with the spirits. She was not a leader nor a follower. If anything she was just herself. "I haven't seen you before. Who are you?" She was always open to new hyena, and she hoped this female was open to her as well.
"I am N'tombi. A local shaman." She was proud of her identity and hoped that this knowledge would settle any ill feelings the other hyena had. For now she remained laying in her small little den, her sleeping companion still tucked into her side. There was no need to get up, not yet anyway.
