A quiet rumor had been spread amongst the pride members earlier that day, that anyone that was loyal to Zira and her family should go to the Outlands. They were to talk freely about the various topics that currently plagued most of them. Faraja was unsure as to where her loyalty was anymore, and had decided to go on this midnight stroll. She was pretty sure no one had saw her leave the den, she had left silently almost like a ghost. Letting her cubs behind at the den where she knew they would be kept safe from any outside threat. There were a few lions she hated to betray, mainly her sister in law Sarabi. She had always been kind to her, and they had a pretty close relationship. Faraja was at a loss currently due to her own conflicted heart. She had loved both of her brothers and this was no easy time for her. Keeping her profile on the low she made her way to the Outlands in no time.
Each time she had to step across that boundary it became much easier to do. She didn't even flinch as she left the Pride Lands behind. She kept up the pace moving like a shadow, wanting to get to the meeting place in good time. They had decided to meet at the massive termite mound that was in the center of the Outlands. It was tucked away from the border so no one would see what was going on. The huge mound overlooked the barren land around it, making her feel small and completely out of place.
Faraja came to a stop, glancing around to see who else had already arrived here.

Keepig her eyes locked on the male lion she smirked slightly, at least he wasn't boring company. Most of the pride was quite boring now that all of the drama had died off. They had rallied so well when Scar had been King, having to survive on scraps. They had to rely on each other to stay alive and that made everyone care about one another. Now that life had returned to normal the pride itself was breaking into small groups just like they had done when Mufasa had ruled. It was one of the things that annoyed her so much, and so she had become more and more reclusive. Faraja kept herself well hidden even in plain view of other lions. She was quite good at blending into the background so no one would actually bother her. However it would seem that her venture had not gone unnoticed and she hoped no one else from the actual pride would show up here.
“I spent my whole young life snuggled up to rocks, I much prefer a flat boulders out in the plains these days.” He told her in his own amused tone. “But I got curious since you don’t see many lions wandering around late at night on their own and sneaking over the border.” He gave a light shrug. “Naturally, I’m sure you are more than a capable lioness, but it only seems fair to be concerned for a fellow pride member don’t you think? Especially to get your thoughts in order way out in hostile territory.”
"Being that I am technically a royal lion I should becareful. However most do not know that I am a daughter of Ahadi and Uru. I am their only living daughter, the only remaining member of that family. I come here and I feel peace. Peace is something I've always chased." Faraja told him softly. She had always sought time away from her family and pride, ever since she was a cub herself. It was a habit she enjoyed quite frequently.
The approach of the hyena came seemingly out of nowhere, she felt her fur bristle slightly in response to his commentary. "I go where I wish to go. I'm not here to cause any other creature harm. Whether they be lion, leopard, or hyena. I'm here to escape my own problems." Faraja turned her head to watch Mifupa curious as to why a lone hyena was here talking to lions. She noticed that Malka hadn't become aggressive so she remained neutral as well.

Time was a fluid thing, and she had lost track of it as the night went on. She wasn't one to get emotional but sometimes it truly couldn't be helped. Her grief was rather unique at least compared to the other members in the pride. Most only grieved for one of the brothers, but she was grieving for both of them. It was hard to accept that both of her siblings were dead, she wasn't even that old. They should all still be here together ruling this vast beautiful land. Instead, they were both in the earth and she had to watch her home and family slowly fall apart. Faraja wasn't sure what the future held anymore, who would ultimately come out on top. She knew it wasn't going to be easy. Unfortunately as far as she was concerned both sides of the pride had equal right to the throne and title of King. Simba was the only son her late brother Mufasa had produced before he died. Simba was a heir to the land. However, Scar had also produced many cubs and they all had the same rights as Simba. Their father had been a King and had died as one.
Which meant any of them could lay a claim to the throne, it seemed that everyone was ignoring that possibility. The same went for Zira, she had been a Queen for many seasons before Simba came home and killed her mate. Instead of doing things formally the pride had just moved on while the Queen's hunting party had been away. When she had returned there had been a brand new King... and no one even bothered to really find out her opinion on the matter. The young King seemed content on ruling his Kingdom and ignoring all the drama he and his young Queen had started. The tension was rising slowly between different groups in the large pride, and she herself would eventually have to make a choice. She wasn't sure what she would decide. If she sided with Simba would she even be recognized as one of the royal family?
If she sided with Zira would she have to abandon her title and leave? It was such a hard time for her. She was torn in the middle between both sides of her family. Faraja cared deeply for all of her nieces and nephews. The situation was enough to drive one crazy.
“Is it really so wise to be out here alone?”
The voice startled her from her thoughts, and on instinct she leapt to her feet. Teeth bared and claws extended as she expected to see a hyena or some other creature. Green eyes moved through the shadows before they fell on a lion. He looked familiar to her but not on a personal level. By the look of him he was around Simba's age maybe a bit older or younger. Inhaling his scent she recognized his scent as one of the pride. Drawing in a deep breath she stared at the younger male with a slight smirk on her face. "It's probably not very wise but it is necessary. I need a break from pride life." She stated simply with a roll of her shoulders, trying to appear more casual then she really felt. He really had spooked her.
“Even if you are seeking time away from home, it wouldn’t hurt to have a lookout at least keeping an eye out from a distance.”
A part of her knew he wasn't wrong, it wasn't exactly safe for a lion to be here. Let alone a royal lion. They had acquired a bunch of enemies over the generations. "I've never needed a guard before, but if you are volunteering to be one I won't say no." She told him a amused tone to her voice. Indeed she was always open to getting to know someone new. "My question is why are you out here? Shouldn't you be back at Pride Rock snuggled up in the den?" She asked him sarcastically.

Green eyes shimmered in that darkness, and she moved in the shadow to keep away from prying eyes. She had left the comforts of Pride Rock a few hours prior before the sun went down. All she had wanted lately was to have some time to herself, there had been so much going on lately. Faraja knew that her cubs would be fine without her for a night, they were practically teenagers and her eldest two were fully grown. Which gave her more freedom then in the past. She left her family in the care of the pride, stating that she would be back tomorrow sometime. If she was being honest with herself, she needed a moment to grieve. She needed to grieve for her family, and how things were still not completely normal. Normalcy seemed to be more of a fantasy then reality anymore. Faraja stepped easily over the line between the Pride Lands and the neighboring outlands.
There was no one in the Outlands that could scare her. No lion pride had claimed the territory and mostly it was just jackals and hyenas that roamed here. Neither spooked her. It amazed her how easy it was to just leave, to walk away and go somewhere else. A few years ago it would have been hard to exit her home land. She wouldn't have wanted to leave. Now though, she felt the urge to roam more and more. Faraja knew the Outlands rather well, she had been visiting here quite a bit. Her paws found familiar paths, and soon the yellow toned feline arrived at the watering hole. It was one of her favorite spots here and tonight would be no different.
Getting a nice long drink, she soon found a comfortable rock to lounge on. She sprawled out in a heap, enjoying the heat that still made that rock warm. Rolling onto her back she stared up at the night sky from the Outlands. Feeling more at peace. In the quiet her mind began to wander off. She thought of her brothers and how everything had fallen apart. She thought of her parents. How her father had been so strict with them growing up... how he had treated one brother better then the other. How no matter what Taka had never been good enough.
She thought of Mufasa's untimely death, how everything had changed after that. How Taka had murdered his own guard and became a tyrant. How the entire pride suffered under his leadership. Then Simba coming home out of no where and basically killing the King. He hadn't even recognized Zira as a former Queen.. and that had started the troubles now. The pride was split on many things.. and it was only getting worse.
Faraja had a feeling in her stomach.. a bad feeling. That life was going to change soon, and may never really be the same ever again. It was hard to accept things for what they were. It was hard for her to see her one brother as good and the other as evil. It was hard to ignore Taka's death. To pretend it hadn't broken her heart to see him dead and gone. They had been close when they were young. Now.. it was all over.
She felt a tear slip down her cheek as she continued to stare up at the night sky. Wishing for a sign that all was well.

"The Lion Guard consists of five members, all of which have special abilities to protect the Pride Lands and the ruling family. Your father was the leader of his generations Lion Guard. His title was the fiercest. He and his friends defended the Circle of Life. It was a hard job but he perfected it. --- When Mufasa died and Scar took over as King he lost his Lion Guard abilities. We haven't had a lion guard since then... perhaps a new one will be chosen."
Faraja had often wondered why no new Lion Guard had been formed since Scar had lead them. Her nephew Simba's generation had no guard as did Kiara's group of cubs. Maybe now that a second born royal cub was born a new Guard would begin? Kiongozi however was a tiny little baby at the moment, in time surely they would know. She hoped that a new guard was formed to help defend the circle and keep the balance. Together they walked in silence for a moment before she heard Vitani's voice yet again. "You are welcome my dear. I have tons of memories and stories for you and your brothers should you ever want to hear them."
Even though other pride members hated to hear about Scar, everyone acted like he had the plague. She just felt like he should be remembered for who he was prior to his darkness. He had been a kind lion once upon a time. A gentle soul that wanted to protect his family from danger. Faraja hated reminding the pride of these things due to them scoffing and making mean comments. She wouldn't even attempt to talk with Simba or Nala about him. It just wasn't a good idea. Did that mean she hated Mufasa? No. She loved him too, he had been a great brother and wonderful ruler.
Life had been hard on both of the brothers, and so their destiny had been changed. She always believed it was her father's strict ways was why the brothers fell apart. With a firm shake of the head she cleared her thoughts and came back to the present time and place with her darling niece. They had crowned the peak and could now relax here for as long as they desired to do so. Vitani asked her a question and she smiled softly.
"Many cubs have fallen from this place over the generations. So have a few royal lions over the years. It can be dangerous if a gust of wind would blow or if someone had bad intentions." She said simply before taking a seat to gaze out at the massive expanse of land she had always called home. Faraja was glad she had been able to let Vitani see such a thing. She hoped the girl would remember it for a long time to come.

A small smile wormed it's way across her face, it brought her some amount of joy to see her niece actually happy. The conversation turned quickly to her brother Scar, and the smile became more sad then anything else. Even though most of the pride had tried to erase him from their memory it was not something she could ever do. Faraja grieved for both of her brothers, both of which were taken far before their time. If anything she blamed her father for this entire situation. Ahadi had a way of turning his boys against one another, always in jest or for a lesson. However, it would seem that some sort of damage had been done. Scar had never been good enough to make Ahadi proud. Even when he became the next leader of the Lion Guard. Even that was meant with contempt and a roll of his eye. Exhaling softly, she shook her head trying to swipe the memories away.
"Your father was a kind hearted cub, he had a big heart and a even bigger mind. He obeyed the rules most of the time growing up for by ignoring them would bring our father's wrath. King Ahadi was very strict with us, and we would get slapped around if we broke any of the rules... Your father was always a cunning sort.. He was a wonderful leader of the Lion Guard."
Moving over some rocks, she dug her claws into the dirt as a way to not slip on the path. She knew there was a chance she would catch hell from someone for letting one of -his- cubs up here. Like previously mentioned the pride wanted to forget him completely. No one spoke his name and grieving seemed to be frowned upon. Faraja often left the large rock when she felt like crying, not wanting to bring more drama into her life.
"When your dad became a teenager he started to be more rebellious. That's when he became friends with Shenzi and the hyena clan. They accepted him more then the pride did.. Honestly my dear, your father was a very misunderstood individual." That was the honest truth. Scar had such a large heart when he was young, he would do anything for a friend. He would take on the most dangerous enemy to help someone in need. It was hard to accept that he had become dark and murderous.
The duo continued their climb, honestly she hoped the girl would keep talking about him. Someone needed to remember him. Who better then his daughter?

If nothing else she was very good at pretending. She was rather adept at pretending to be fast asleep when in all reality she was awake and aware of her surroundings. Her ears twitched silently as she listened to the pride leave,at least the majority left to start their particular duties of the day. That was something she did not have to worry about this day, for she had a day off. The entire day was free of all duties, it was something she had earned as of late by keeping a eye on the newest member of the royal family. Faraja had considered it a honor to watch over the newborn prince, he was adorable. His gold coat reminded her so much of her brother Mufasa, even the tiny red tail puff. Kiongozi was indeed something special for that she had no doubt.
A peaceful silence resumed in the massive den, and real sleep teased at her eyelids. What a better way to spend her day off then resting and working on all that sleep she lost in the last few years. Just as she was about to zone off into lala land, the familiar scent of her niece Vitani tickled her nose. She almost opened her eyes but decided to pretend to be fast asleep instead. Honestly she hadn't seen her niece since Simba had returned to take back his birth right. Zira and her offspring and seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth, much to her concern. She always hoped they were okay. As the young lioness moved past her, she opened one mossy green eye to follow her shadow.
It became quite obvious that the cub was going for the sacred peak. A place that cubs were never supposed to go without a adult to guide them. With a slight exhale the yellow coated lioness silently stood and moved after her. She knew the rules better then anything and with the growing rift between the various groups in the pride. Surely no one would take kindly to Vitani sneaking around and going somewhere even the heirs dare not go. The cub turned and spoke out. "I wasn't doing anything." Ahh, just that statement alone seemed rather guilty and slight smirk crossed her features.
"Cubs are not allowed on sacred peak. Not unless they have a adult to accompany them. Even your father abide by that rule. Lucky for you I am your aunt and a adult." Faraja stated simply with a roll of her shoulders. She hadn't been on Sacred Peak in many years ever since she herself was a wee cub. When her father Ahadi had taken all three of his cubs to the top, it had been a wonderful day. It was now a wonderful memory.
"Lead on."
