"Good luck mother," Amari murmured to Sarafina as the older lioness left to join the hunt. She had decided not to join in for a lesson this night, instead she had volunteered as a cub sitter. They were going to wait at Hakuna Matata falls for the hunting party to come fetch them when they had finished. This would be the first time some of the cubs had ever seen a fresh kill, and the thrill that came with it. Such things had been denied to most of the older cubs and teenagers due to her father Scar changing the law. The lions hunted during the day and the hyena clan hunted at night time. It hadn't worked very well and many of the pride had suffered with hunger. Amari returned her attention to the large group of cubs that were in the den. "Alright guys we are heading to Hakuna Matata falls, we will all wait there until someone from the hunting party comes to fetch us."
Doing a once over one final time the teenager gathered the newborn prince into her jaws, being careful to not pinch him. Amari kept her pace slow so the cubs could keep up with her, the last thing she needed was someone wandering off. This was a big deal for her, being a cub sitter was a important job. The mothers needed to be able to trust a cub sitter with the cubs, if she lost that trust it was over. Luckily, she was a pale color at least compared to most in the pride and she was quite easy to locate in the dark. Raising her tail slightly she moved down the trail.
It didn't take very long for the group to reach the water fall. Finding another cub sitter she set baby Kion down. A quick glance around making sure they were alone here. Amari did a head count, all were accounted for. With that done the young lioness went to get herself a nice drink of cold water. The waiting for someone to arrive was the hardest part for her, it always had been. Even when the hunting was harder. She always worried something would happen to one of the hunters. Accidents happened all the time, and sometimes a huntress would die during the hunt.
A few of her friends had lost their mothers due to these accidents. She had lucked out so far, her mother had been sparred any sort of bad accident. Amari also hoped Zira would remain safe during the hunt. Heck she hoped they were all okay when this was done. Since the shadow times the pride had become rusty at least when it came to night hunting.
Taking a seat by the waters edge she waited for news.

It wasn’t often young Kion got to go outside the dens or the perimeter of Pride Rock. He was still quite young and vulnerable, easily able to hurt himself if he stepped wrong or didn’t pay attention. His parents were always watchful of what he did as he grew, especially since he had started walking about and moving around. It seemed he was already showing his more adventurous side his father once had and his sister did now.
The young male had perked his ears up upon hearing Amari’s announcement.
Finally he could go out somewhere! Even if it was under the watchful eye of another. Kion was just eager to see the world outside these rocky walls. Shortly after the young lioness had said anything, she was soon picking him up, letting out a small squeak as he was lifted from the ground and immediately curling up by reflex. For once not hissing in protest, Kion’s eyes widened with wonder as he was carried from the dens, turning his head every which way he could to try and take in some sights he had not seen before. He hadn’t been this far out before and everything was new to him.
The trip to the falls felt short however and soon Amari was placing him down near the other cubs. Sitting on his rump, Kion tilted his head, straining to take in all the sights and falling over on his back with a small grunt. Shaking his head slightly, the infant cub rolled over onto his side, blinking as his brown eyes spotted something unusual. It was a little firefly, buzzing and blinking about the nearby ferns and causing him to tilt his head to the side quizzically. “Oooh~” Pushing his chubby body up, Kion hobbled over towards the glowing insect until he was near enough to start swatting and snapping at it.
But, the insect remained out of his reach causing him to huff in annoyance. Scowling, the little golden cub watched as the insect flew further into the trees to escape the nuisance, Kion wiggling his way through the ferns to follow.

Tags @kion Amari <3Words 309 Notes sorry, shit post but I wanted to throw thanni in here. | T ᕼ Λ П D I ᗯ E The Pridelands were gorgeous and peaceful this evening. Already the pinks and purples of sunset streaked across the sky and the landscape was bathed in it’s splendor. The massive male was making his way toward Hakuna Matata Falls. Most of the day, Thandiwe had been out on his patrols of the borders. His cousin Simba needed all the help he could get right now; with the new budding kingdom, his ornery daughter and the subtle rift between some of the lionesses.
With Thanni taking over the Border Patrols, it gave Simba more time to focus upon other aspects of the Pridelands. Today overall had been uneventful, no new signs of rogues or hyenas. The herd animals were all getting along, save for a couple antelope bucks trying to impress their does. Nothing out of the ordinary.
On his way back to PrideRock, he ran into Tama and Taamu. They had mentioned a hunt was planned for that night and that they were on their way to the Falls to drop off Tiifu with the rest of the cubs. Thandiwe volunteered to take her there himself and to help keep an eye on everyone. Tama placed the sleeping Tiifu upon his back and he headed out.
Sure he was exhausted after a long day’s patrols but he figured he could relax once he got to the falls. Glancing over his shoulder, he smiled to the tiny cub that clung to his back. He picked his way through Nyani Grove and finally he reached Hakuna Matata falls. It didn’t take him long to find the others, infact it seemed Kion found him first.
The little toddler burst through the ferns right infront of him, an insect fluttered through Thanni’s legs racing to get away from the Prince’s paws. “Awh man, I’m sorry little dude. I didn’t mean to interrupt your hunt.”
