the personality

Personality • As a hyena, she has an inherited lack of seriousness to situations. Rarely turning down the opportunity to poke fun at something no matter how morbid or malicious it may come across, there is no obvious line for her. In fact, this is likely due to her confidence and ability to be calm about the most stressful of situations. Know that when Shenzi is stressed or heavily fearful of something, it usually involves her life being on the line. Her humorous side is often her downfall when it comes to making mistakes, easily distracted by things she drops her attention quite easily.

Despite her lighter more witty side, she is an extremely vicious individual who is as brutal as they come. A muscular hyena with a very strong bite mixed with a vengeful streak is not something to be taken lightly, Shenzi lacks remorse for what she does meaning she will go great lengths to get something. In fact, killing is more than just a task for her but rather a sense of enjoyment, it’s not odd to catch her laughing and smiling while trying to tear something apart. Much preferring to skip the talking to resolve any issue, unless she knows she can’t win in a physical fight. She may be hungry for killing but she is not so brave.

While one to joke and tease she is able to be serious and think intelligently, a schemer and logical. Shenzi understands the seriousness of some situations to an extent, maybe still not to an acceptable degree but certainly when she really needs to be.

History • For decades the small clan Shenzi grew up in was a hyena clan that lived in starvation, little land to call their own and were subject to having food stolen by lions. Faced with constantly being looked down upon as bottom of the food chain, Shenzi was forced to be a highly driven individual when it came to survival. Despite being born alongside her brothers, she stole from them at any given opportunity, no matter how hungry they were. Fights broke out amongst the small clan, tales of lions terrorising and driving the hyenas away only pushed tensions further.

Shenzi’s mother, the matriarch, herself was a ruthless leader. Yet one who struggled with keeping the clan at peace and constantly stressing over competing with other hyena clans. During the struggle, Shenzi’s two brothers succumbed to starvation and left her on her own. While she wasn’t overly close with them and her mother merely labelling it as ‘two less mouths to feed’ it still left her with a strong loneliness. However, In light of it all, Shenzi found friendship in two Male hyenas; Banzai and Ed. They were rough players, a trio who were united by their chaotic natures. Each with their own features that mixed well with the other.

Behind the scenes of the chaos that seemed to always be a constant, Shenzi and her two friends worked to seek other allies. As the daughter of a well liked matriarch it wasn’t a surprise to find her receiving the same treatment, many supporting her ideas. One major idea being to unite all the other hyena clans to become one super one and push their way back to an area with more food. With the help of her mother she was able to ally with other clans and form one large clan with one goal.

The clan took a huge hit when Shenzi’s mother died, a victim to age and starvation. Naturally the title fell down to Shenzi, becoming matriarch of the outlanders. That was when Scar came into the picture. A lion from the pride lands, at first unwelcome by Shenzi and her friends. The male lion claiming to feel like an outcast of his brother’s pride, more like the hyenas than a lion. With time Shenzi grew fond of Scar, classing the one lion as their useful friend when he brought them food.

Years later and Scar proposed his plan to Shenzi; to kill the king. Of course she was for the idea, wishing to take what the lions had kept away from the hyenas for so long. It was a plan that took time and a lot of planning, of which Scar handled while Shenzi and her friends executed. A plan that went south near the end, while Mufasa was murdered Sunna escaped. Of course she wasn’t going to tell Scar that, lying to him that the king’s son was dead.

Overall the plan was a success, Scar becoming king and welcoming the hyenas into the pride lands was Shenzi’s greatest victory. Something she’d been dreaming of for a long time. They were free to hunt, superior to the lions and under the protection of Scar. They were higher in the food chain. Though one thing Shenzi didn’t anticipate was how chaotic the freedom really was. The hyenas over hunted, treated many of the lionesses poorly and drove the remaining food sources away. The land was dying, Shenzi realised the error yet her trust in Scar also seemed to be the same. Scar rejecting any responsibility Shenzi wished he would claim, yet she along with many others were fearful of his reactions.

To make matters worse for Shenzi, the king’s son returned as of by a flash of lightening. The failure to kill the prince when he was just a cub had come back to haunt her. Mayhem ensued, fighting left right and centre between the lions and hyenas broke out. Come the heavy storm cane more lightening and so too fire. Pride rock was in flames, the fighting was ruthless and Scar was nowhere to be seen. She knew the battle was already lost, the hyenas had numbers but the lions had courage and strength. Shenzi, accompanied by Banzai and Ed, left the scene in search for their friend.

Though that friendship was burned within a heart sinking moment. Upon arrival and stood amongst the flames, Shenzi and her two friends stood as they watched Scar lie to Simba in desperation, throwing all the blame onto the hyenas to save his own skin. She snapped, angered by the betrayal, feeling used and mocked. Once Scar was pushed off the rock despite his tries to save himself, Shenzi called off the hyena attack and directed the rest of them at Scar. Ultimately killing him.

With a heavy downfall, the hyenas that escaped the flames left the pride lands before anymore could perish. Shenzi leasing the broken and battle scarred clan back to the outlands, the hyena clan regrouped to recuperate. Extremely angered by having the hope of flourishing taken away, Shenzi has put her efforts into building the outlands into a more stable home- of course far less impressive than the pride lands. Though there is still a fire in her to get what she once had back, one way or another.

Staying high up on the rocks, Banzai and Ed by her side, she watched the scene unfold. Practically smelling the tension in the air as hyenas growled, hesitantly edging closer, and thunder echoed from above as lightening struck the trees. Scar was pinned by Mufasa’s son, the lion she was supposed to kill many years ago, like Scar told them to. No way was she wanting to face the wrath of Scar just yet.
Shenzi wasn’t stupid, she stayed high up out of Scar’s reach and out of the way of what she knew will erupt any second now.

And that’s when all hell broke loose.

A mountain of hyenas flooded on top of the Prince to push him off Scar, crowding him with vicious biting teeth and angry growls. She still stood and watched, the fire below pride rock soon spreading to surround everything and casting a red hue followed by smoke over Shenzi. A vicious growl leaving her throat once the lionesses also raced into the battle, an animalistic urge to join in soon taking over once she realised what was truly happening. She needed to protect her clan and Scar.

With a deep snarl, she jumped down from the safety up above and on top of one of the lions, clamping down into fur mercilessly and ragging. The heat of the flames and embers only making things much harder. Many hyenas already abandoning the scene in fear of burning themselves while some other stayed caught in the fight. She snapped at anything in her reach that wasn’t her own, aiming to seriously harm. Viciously snarling, biting and chasing with a sinister grin as if she was enjoying it all. Teeth met flesh and claws collided with jaws, the thrill of it all only provided her with more adrenaline. So much so that she almost became blinded to the fact she was trying to protect Scar.

”Banzai! Ed! Come on!”

Shenzi pushed past whatever was in her way, fighting her way out to flee the battle scene, hoping her two friends were not far behind, and scrambled over the rocks. The sky and surrounding scenery seemed to be completely engulfed in smoke, the only light source being the flames now. She had to find Scar, this was a loosing battle and she wasn’t going to leave him.
