Today was a perfect day for a swim, the heat and humidity were horrible. It was bad enough that the hunting party wasn't going out until the sun went down. Which left the pride with a whole lot of nothing to do. Kula had decided to venture to Big Springs early in the morning. It would be a nice place to rest and relax for the day. That and unlike most of her kind she loved to get wet and to swim. As such she had been taught early in life how to fish, which had helped her and her family survive during the shadow times. It was a skill she hoped to pass down to her own offspring. As she walked along familiar path ways a slight smile crossed her face. Her mind was on her supposed mate Chumvi, she hadn't seen him in a while. Often she wondered where he went.
They didn't have a perfect relationship but to her it was good enough. She needed a suitable male to have cubs with and he fit that bill. Kula loved him dearly but she knew that he was incapable of being faithful to her. He had always been a huge flirt and she wondered how many other lionesses he had been with. How many other cubs he had, and who their mothers were. She had adapted to having a broken family and didn't really let it bother her anymore. When she was younger it had driven her crazy but now it was just another day. She just hoped he was doing well wherever he was.
Finally, she arrived at the Big Springs. The hippo herd lingered at the edge of the water, and paid her no mind. Hippo were rarely if ever on the menu for the pride, and so they had no real reason to be wary of her. Kula watched them for a moment, enjoying the sight of baby hippos splashing around. It was nice seeing all of the herds coming back in full numbers. She moved down to the opposite edge of the spring so the adult hippos wouldn't get nervous due to a predator being so close.
She found a nice rock near edge of the water, hidden partially by a lone tree to give some shade. It was perfect! Orange eyes crinkled slightly as she leapt up onto the warm rock. A pleasured sigh escaped her as she stretched out on the warm surface. She slid to the edge and dipped her paws over the edge near the water. Glancing down she watched the numerous fish swimming beneath her.
Kula remained on her perch, watching the world around and just enjoying some peace. She had mentioned coming here to Nala and Tama. In a way she hoped her two friends would decide to join her here. It would be nice to catch up without anyone else around. She missed just hanging out with her friends.
