Family drama at it's finest. Her family was full of drama ever since her older sister had returned with her mate. With her arrival everything Amari had ever known had fallen apart in a span of hours. Her father was brutally slain and devoured by hyena, leaving her feeling much like a orphan. Honestly, her relationship with her mother had never been the greatest to begin with. It was widely known that Sarafina had resented having to breed with Scar. Iniko and herself were products of that forced union and we're never treated with a loving touch. It always felt like a bare minimum which only fueled her anger over the situation. Now that her sister was Queen and producing cubs like crazy, she felt even more out of place.
Once she had been a princess and now she was a no one. The pride was no longer her safe haven. Amari had another argument with her mother that evening, fighting over her father. Fighting about everything. The thunderstorm arrived suddenly and with great force, and with a violent clap of thunder she fled the den. She didn't care whether or not her mother called after her. Her legs carried her swiftly away from the place that was now slowly turning into some kind of prison. The young lioness didn't pay much mind as to where she was going, she just ran.
Ran and ran until she came to a place she had never explored before. The elephant graveyard, the place her father often visited in his youth. Though in his time this place was filled to the brim with hyena. Now though it was vacant, which in her mind only made it creepier. For a moment she hesitated before entering anyway, why should she be afraid? It was only the dead that slept here. The rain continued to pour down from the sky, thunder booming and cracking as she roamed this place.
She ignored the tears that silently ran down her cheeks, pretending it was just the rain. Amari was confused and hurt by the drama in her family. She wanted to matter again. She wanted a future that wasn't just a mere huntress. Now she was a no one, and a no one she would stay.

Iniko truly felt forgotten. Though she considered Sarafina her mother, they didn't understand Scar at all. To watch him get slayed like that had pretty much put a thorn in her heart. Iniko knew at some point things would get far more divided. Iniko too was stripped of her title of being a princess. She felt like a no one as well. In more than one way they could all relate all band together. The red lioness walked along kicking what looked like a former rib bone that had belonged to one of the graveyard humming a song in her head. "What was that song that dad sang? Something about coconuts?" She muttered under her breath. "Oh forget it, it was a silly song anyways." She muttered wondering what coconuts were in the first place. The rain fell on her red colored coat as she didn't seem to mind at all as her coat was probably wet. Sarafina might've had a cow for seeing the dirty teen not looking presentable. But she didn't care. Iniko just was mad and angry a bundle of nerves about the happy go lucky pride that was there. Simba and Nala had welcomed them yes, but it was awkward. No one liked them because of their father. And Iniko hated it.
Though to some the lions here didn't think that the graveyard wasn't a place to live. There was no food no were to live. But she wondered what it would've been like living here. It was a place to live if you wanted to be a left alone. Iniko forgot about her shaman abilities and duties for a day she made sure she would just goof off for a day that was something that she wanted a break from.
That was when the lioness looked ahead as she saw her sister as she knew that something was dep long troubling her sister as she saw the tears. "Amari what is the matter? I was out in the graveyard away from those fools in the pridelands..." Iniko said.
"I feel like we were forgotten no one cares for us." Iniko said looking down at our paws as her eyes looked like sad pools of oasis water. She wouldn't force out tears of her own. Amari's was enough for her as she rubbed her sister gently for a soft head butt greeting. At leaset they had each other, right? Iniko was grateful for that. "You don't suppose Dad's ghost is here?" Iniko asked as she probably felt that sentence was way wrong.

Tags Blackbird & @sacredfire200 Words 494 Notes Yolandi casually laughs about her pridesisters dead dad. | Y σ ɭ α ɳ ԃ ι The Elephant Graveyard. She wasn’t sure why, but the young female had always taken a liking to this place. It was desolate and isolated, and so utterly solitary ever since the hyenas had abandoned it. No sane Pridelander ever dared to take a single step within it’s dreary boarders and perhaps that was why she adored it so much. The scent of death and decay didn’t bother her much, in a way she found beauty in the way the mists swirled around the sacred bones and skulls of the deceased. Tonight however, made the Graveyard more magical than ever. Pale eyes watched the sky in utter fascination as the lightning flashed across the sky. She felt waves of goosebumps ripple upon her skin as the booming thunder rumbled across the land. This was amazing.
However, her own little private show was destined to be disturbed it seemed. A voice, though muffled through the storm, caused the pre-teen to shift her eyes from the sky to a mere few meters away from her. It was the twins, Amari and Iniko. A single arched brow rose up in confusion as to why these two girls were standing out in the Graveyard in the middle of a terrible storm. Yolandi shifted her body in her little hideaway. A massive bull elephant skull formed the roof of a den that Yolandi dug out of the earth herself. She was quite proud of her little sanctuary. It took days for her to excavate the earth by paw. It was quite large, plenty of room to hold a few grown lions at least. She had even found some moss by the riverbeds and pulled up some thick grasses to pad the floor.
Yolandi listened to Iniko’s words and a scowl of distaste crossed her face. Forgotten, eh? No one cares, huh? At least they had a mother. They knew their father. She crossed her paws as she looked to the twins. They knew nothing of truly feeling alone and unwanted. But then again, how would they? They had technically been princesses afterall. That title came with ignorance sometimes. When Iniko spoke of Scar’s ghost, Yolandi let out an audible laugh. Shit. So much for watching them silently. She felt their eyes upon her, and she tried appear nonchalant, snapping her own head toward the horizon. She flicked her tail idly behind her and slowly turned her gaze to the older girls.
“Even if Scar had a ghost, it wouldn’t be here. It would be at the base of Pride Rock. That’s where he died, didn’t he?” Well, there Yolandi went and put her foot in it this time. Yes, Landi, don’t forget to remind them of their fathers brutal death. Fucking idiot. Periwinkle eyes glanced around thoughtfully before returning to the girls. “Why are you guys out in a literal storm..?” Yeah, that’s smooth. Just change the subject. Maybe they’ll forget about the whole dead dad ghost shit. Not likely. |

Emerald jewels flashed in the storm, she literally felt like she could jump out of her skin. Seeing her sister here out of no where had put her on edge. She didn't enjoy being surprised but she doubted her sister was doing it as a prank. Her ears flattened a bit as Iniko asked her what was wrong. Amari wasn't sure where to begin to answer this question, honestly what wasn't wrong? She rolled her eyes towards her sister as she began to speak to her. "I got into another fight with mother. We don't see eye to eye on most things anymore, but you are already aware of that. I get tired of pretending our father didn't exist. I get sick of not being able to speak of him or even grieve for him." She hissed out vehemently, her claws sliding out and scratching deep gouges in the soft muddy earth.
"I feel like a damn outcast in my own pride. My own mother doesn't even seem to care about how hard this all is for me or you! She just expects us to accept it and shut up." Amari felt the tears prickle at her eyes once again but this time she forced them back. Crying wouldn't solve a damn thing. It never had helped. The rain continued to pour down on them, and she shuddered from the cold of it. She was soaked to the very bone, water logged even. A third voice joined their conversation and she once again, felt like she could leap out of her skin.
Turning her head towards the massive skull she noticed the feline inside. A slightly younger female that she had seen around a few times. Her sisters question about their father's ghost brought Amari's attention back towards Iniko. She hadn't really given it much thought as to whether a ghost even existed. Scar had taught both of them about the great Kings of the past, how they watched and guided them from above. Amari had subconsciously been praying for a sign that her dad was still here... so far nothing had happened. She was beginning to think it was all a joke.
Then Yolandi's comment came about how his ghost would only be at Pride Rock where he died. Amari snarled slightly, her right side of her upper lip curling upwards. "Ghosts don't exist. It's all a bunch of make believe." She hissed out, before dropping her eyes back to the muddy earth. The anger she felt for Yolandi soon settled and left, what the point of being mad over a comment. It just had hurt to hear it. She didn't want to think about her father being devoured by hyena. It was horrible.
"I'd rather be out in the storm then deal with the petty bullshit that is going on back at Pride Rock." Amari stated simply with a roll of her shoulders. "What are you doing out here Iniko? What about you Yolandi? Why are either of you here?"

Iniko huffed. The flash of the storm made her fur bristle and stand on end. She felt some of the electricity in the air as she wondered just how long this storm would last. This area in the Elephant Graveyard hadn't seen rain in so long there had pretty much been a drought. With no water, no grass grew and only dirt, mud, and bones existed along with the occasional steam vent. No wonder the hyenas liked it here, they were alone, and no one bothered them. Iniko could see the appeal for it. "The shamans say that spirits lurk about in the trees and even in places like here..." Iniko said. "I'm not superstitious though...I'd have to see it to believe it." Iniko said not entirely sure if they'd see Scar's ghost. Dead was dead. But Iniko had been there for the same reason why Amari was there. To stay away from those fools who didn't want them to be a part of the pride. Iniko felt like an outcast just like Amari for that matter. Iniko's heart sank as well hearing about Yolandi talk about Scar being eaten she had been there when it happened and the whole time, she had been terrified.
"Oh Shush!" She said with a snap in her tone looking serious at Yolandi about telling that about their father. Iniko was not in the mood for a fight though the shush was good enough for her towards Yolandi. Besides, the rain was cold enough to make anyone stiff in the joins even for the teens, Iniko felt everything get wet... Maybe they needed to find shelter soon? Yolandi had already thought of that idea.
"I'm out here for the same reason, Amari I don't want to deal with the other lions in the Pride Lands..." Iniko admitted. "I had thought about running away once or twice... But what good would that do?" She asked with a frown knowing Iniko would get lost. The lands that were out there were mysterious and as well as unknown to Iniko now. The Pridelands had been her home if Iniko were to run away she would've gone with someone first. She would never have the courage to do it.
"I know things are shifting a lot in the family right now I barely see mom, for that matter... I try to avoid things and avoid fights..." Iniko said as she looked down at their paws. She felt a tear hit her about it as she thought about what happened in the past. But Iniko tried hard not to cry too much. Someone had to be a strong one here. But Iniko felt it was more like for her loss over Scar and for the fact that they were pretty much orphans. Iniko loved Sarafina yes, but as their age got to them and they were now teens. Iniko felt like she didn't really need her anymore. Iniko felt a sense of independence. And yet, at the same time the family was starting to break and fall apart. Iniko felt like Sarafina cared more for Nala and Mheetu than she did of the two sisters.

Tags Blackbird & @sacredfire200 Words 245 Notes n|a | Y σ ɭ α ɳ ԃ ι Yolandi rolled her eyes at the girls while they snarled and snapped toward her in response to her words. Puh, such babies. Couldn’t even handle a tiny dig at their father. She stood up and stretched within the comforts of her den. She glanced around her cozy home. Rain managed to find a few cracks within the skull, causing it to dribble down in random spots. The leaks were nothing as bad as the downpour outside of course.
Yolandi cringed again as they kept talking about their woes, as if she never were there. Then again, that’s how everyone acted around her. Ignored her presence unless absolutely necessary. As if she was nothing but a ghost within their midst. How fitting. Yolandi glanced down to her pale pelt. Well, if the fur fits, why not wear it? She glanced back to the drowned cats when Amari asked her a question.
“Well, unlike you girls who have a Mama and brothers and sisters, I ain’t got nobody. So this is my safe place, away from the pitiful stares… I was already here when the storm started. All nice and dry.” Maybe now they might get the hint that their words were inadvertly hurtful to Yolandi. She looked pointedly at the older twins. “I mean, if you ask nicely, I just might let you come inside, unless you are trying to become fried by lightning? “ She flicked her tail, subtlety motioning them toward her den. There was plenty enough room for all three females, perhaps even more.

The rain continued to pour down around the two sisters, soaking them to the bone and making her body shiver with chills. All of the dirt around them was quickly turning into thick mud, her paws were soaked. She listened to her sister speak about not being home, how things were spiraling down a dark road. Amari frowned lightly, there was little she could do to change things. "Mother has been busy taking care of the new prince. We are almost grown, she doesn't have to be around all the time." She rationalized it with a slight grimace as another rumble of thunder rolled across the sky above. Her attention fell on Yolandi as the younger lioness spoke to them. Indeed, she had been brought here as a orphan..
Feeling rather foolish for her outburst, Amari lowered her eyes towards the muddy earth. She couldn't fathom not having a mom or siblings, she even had a step mother. Apologizing to her would make it seem almost fake at this point so instead she decided on a different route. "I couldn't imagine what that's like.. I'm sure it must have been hard being alone.." Truly she felt bad for the other lioness, growing up alone was hard. Let alone being alone among a group of lions. Honestly, she was surprised no one had formally adopted her as their cub. Her aunt Sarabi often adopted orphans in the pride, it was one of the reasons why she was so well loved by so many.
Yolandi's situation sort of made her feel stupid for complaining. Sure she had her own problems with her family, but at least she had one. The younger lion spoke again about asking nicely for shelter and a soft chuckle escaped her. "Please? Can we come in so we don't catch our death out here?" Amari asked with a slight pout at the end, obviously trying to joke around with the other teenager. She wanted to make up to her for being such a jerk. Glancing at Iniko she hoped her sister would do the same.
Shaking the water from her fur, she waited for permission to enter the shelter.

Iniko didn't really feel like apologizing either... She felt more of wanting to get into the shelter and stay out of the storm. The storm looked like it wasn't going to end any time soon and they were soaked to the bone. She also didn't really seem all that interested in a fight either with Yolandi. So she summed it up there had to be away around this. Apparently, Amari got the first part of it of apologizing. She recalled Scar never once apologizing for things, she knew she would have to learn that was the wrong way at some point. She gave a soft groan of annoyance mostly towards the rain now. She knew they could be sleeping in their dens... But not this time. "I think it's safe to say we're all orphans now...." Iniko said as she gave a soft shrug knowing she and heard Yolandi asking about wanting to come into the shelter. She didn't budge at first, Iniko was stubborn. But that quickly changed as she felt a strong flash go right passed them striking somewhere in the graveyard. "That was close!" She said feeling her fur fluff up even more from it. Some was stuck together. It would take ages to get her coat clean again. Iniko had to admit sometimes she was strong. But the storm now was too close for comfort as the thunder rolled on in. Suppose the kings from the past were mad at them for something? Iniko kept those thoughts to herself. Suppose their father was watching him? What plans did he have in store? Iniko didn't even have an answer for those. "I'm sorry... As well..." Iniko said. Then she had to swallow her pride and her stubborness, "Is it ok if we are allowed in?" Iniko asked finally giving in. She was stubborn yes. But that was only one side of her. She felt bad for some of the things she said that was true. If her half-brother Mheetu was there, she probably would've said something a lot worse. "It looks like it could fit three of us... Somehow I have a feeling I will not sleep tonight with all that noise." Iniko admitted. All they were surrounded by was bones and Iniko only had a sister and another pride member to hang on for the night. It felt comforting to some degree. It would've been worse if she was alone. @tamsin Amari <3

Tags Blackbird & @sacredfire200 Words 289 Notes n|a | Y σ ɭ α ɳ ԃ ι Yolandi sensed that the other pale female was becoming sympathetic toward her presence in the way she ceased the talks of abandonment. A soft smile curved her lips toward Amari in subtle appreciation but it was quickly dropped at Inikos comment about orphans. It was well apparent that she cared not for Yolandi's feelings about the subject. Yolandi jerked her head toward her home, silently allowing them entrance. She turned away from the mouth of the den and moved further in, muttering under her breath to ensure the others had not heard her. "It's safe to say you still have a fucking mother."
The flash of lightning outside caused her to glance over her shoulder and a soft laugh escaped her lips at Iniko's response to it. It seems perhaps even the Kings of Old were in agreement with Yolandi on the darker females words. She then slid her legs forward and down, initiating a slow stretch while tossing her head over her shoulder toward the girls seeing as they had not yet budged. "Well you best come inside then afore the Kings grow angrier out there!" She shouted at them while a rumble of thunder shook the earth beneath them.
Yolandi slid down upon her belly now, stretching her toes out behind her. She witnessed the girls entering her sanctuary finally, and as they looked around she murmured softly. "It's not much, but it's warm and dry and mine." She glanced up toward the skull ceiling, a proud smile curving her lips at her accomplishment. As another clash of lightning lit up the landscape, she looked to the twins. "Well, get comfy I suppose. It won't be letting up any time soon. You both can stay the night."

Amari could sense the tension between Yolandi and her sister, and she wisely kept her mouth shut. Sometimes her sister could be insensitive even though she didn't mean to be that way. However, she was also more then ready to let the topic drop between the trio. It was a lesson she had learned early in her life. Everyone had a different journey and to compare them was useless. She remembered all of the stories and lessons her father had told her. How he had spoke of his own father and his life.. If someone had offered him compassion and sympathy it was very possible he would have lived a very different life. She wanted to be a open heart and a shoulder to lean on for others. Even if she herself could be hard to deal with at times.
As Yolandi granted them permission to enter, a loud crack of thunder roared around them. A bolt of lightning struck somewhere in the vast graveyard. She hissed under her breath at the brightness and the sound. Her pale fur standing on end along her neck and shoulders, she didn't hesitate to enter the small den. She took a moment to just enjoy being out of the rain. She watched Yolandi for a moment before she found a nice little corner to lay down in. There was no way she would be traveling in this sort of rain. It would be crazy and dangerous.
Her bones ached from the cold rain, and she shivered. Amari tried to get comfortable and busied herself with cleaning her fur. It was a lot of work for her to keep her pale coat looking clean. At least it would be something to do, to pass the time until sleep came. A slight smirk crossed her face as she looked up from her leg. "This would be a great night for scary stories. The atmosphere is perfect." She laughed mostly to herself before continuing to work on her nasty fur.

Iniko decideid to drop the subject. She knew she was getting no where with the talking. The rain came pouring down, soaking to the bone to make sure that they were going to stay dry. Though she preferred her den, they were going to have no choice but stay under an old elephant skull. She wondered just how large this creature had been at one side. If three teenagers could fit in side the skull. Imagine how big the rest of the body was. She crawled in side and curled up next to her sister. And as well as licking some of her fur to get the water off of her paws. To add to it there was more than one skull here, there were thousands. The tusks and rib bones protruded out of the ground. Piled on top of others. This was a place only hyenas wanted to come too. No wonder lions avoided this area. "Thank you for letting us come in." She said squeezing in right next to her sister. She always felt safe around Amari. "We may be stuck here tomorrow." Iniko said with a soft sigh knowing that part was true. "I'm afraid I can't think of too many stories... Dad always managed to put us to sleep with stories about the roar and the lion guard for that matter. I believe we could start there?" Iniko said knowing Yolandi may not want to hear about those. The roar was going to be something that he never forgave himself. Scar had used the roar for evil and other lions were killed. Perhaps all that power had gone to his head. Iniko also remembered her father saying something about getting the scar on his eye about a snake bite... That didn't make much sense. Then another lion said that he had been gouged out by a water buffalo. Either way it sounded painful but it does show he survived something no matter what the story was told it would be worth it in the end. "Take your pick I can start if you want..." She said. "Or we can make up a story too those are always interesting nd show a bit of imagination." Iniko said as she cleaned off her ears and tail next. She was even willing to let Yolandi go first. They might as well figure out what to do while they were stuck there. Iniko knew it would be a long night. @tamsin Amari <3
