Iniko frowned hearing the sad tales that Nya had and as well as the ones that Ma'at had to tell them. Telling stories wasn't so bad she got to know the lions, so she didn't feel like complete strangers towards them. She now felt a little bit bad that she gave them a bit of a cold shoulder earlier. Mostly because she didn't know them. They were strangers. Iniko truly felt safe around Amari and didn't trust too many lions there back at her home. But these lions seemed alright. It was going to be something for Iniko to think about if she wanted to accept them as friends, maybe ask Amari first?
"You two sound like you have suffered a lot. That is something that we have in common. No father. No pride... Nothing left." Iniko admitted trailing off her words. Her ears drooped down the only form of comfort the red lioness had was her sister. She had her father's coat that same red that probably reminded everyone that she had it. She honestly wished she had another color sometimes. But of course, she was stuck with that color and she couldn't change it. Iniko could just sit there and listen to what the three other lionesses had to say and quiet honestly, she was interested. She had only ever heard of the Pridelands and some lions that wandered in the outlands on occasions. But all these prides sounded interesting. "Your pride's traditions and beliefs sound interesting. We've only ever lived in the Pridelands... I had no idea there were others that were beyond the borders." Iniko said now feeling a little bit naĂŻve about it.
"It is true most lions consider the elephant graveyard forbidden by most cubs and teenagers. There are many stories that melted off the place and are now in our lore." Iniko said. A part of her had hoped that Amari had seen Scar. She had so many things to say to their father. Some of it was bad. Some of it was good as well. Iniko knew that if she encountered her father she would tell her so many things and listen to her too. With the thoughts whirlwind in her mind. She knew not when it was going to end or if she could rest tonight.
Iniko felt the thunderstorm overhead as the fog was coming in also. A deadly combination if you were going to walk into it. She had a feeling they were going to stay there for a while. "I have a feeling we are going to have to stay here for a while. We can't see anything and it's too dangerous to go out with the storm. I'm afraid we're stuck here until it passes. I'm sure our mother won't miss us." She said with slight distaste. All Sarafina cared about was Mheetu and Nala. Her first two children. And she didn't even care if they were going to be punished if they got back. It wouldn't be the first time she was to spend a couple of nights back in the den and not go out.
"I know his time on earth isn't here anymore... Sister but I get the feeling Dad is watching us. Nya is right with that." Iniko said with a soft nod as she licked her sister's paws a couple of times of comfort. Iniko probably looked about the same with mud all over her paws so she'd clean them before she went back to sleep.

Amari closed her eyes tight for a long moment, letting the others speak and she remained silent as she listened to them. She knew all to well how the world worked outside of this particular Kingdom. Scar had told them all how wicked the world was outside of their home, and how life and death happened without a pause. How no one life really mattered out there in the unknown. She knew that many pride's suffered under different laws and rituals.. How some knew nothing but pain their entire lives. It was hard to accept that the world was very unfair. She had grown up here in relative safety compared to most. With her father being the reigning King she had little to fear growing up. Though she remembered how many of the other pride members had suffered under his rule. How the hyena had terrorized the pride on so many occasions. How her step mother Zira had to leave the territory quite often to find food for them.
It had been a very dark time in the pride's history, she would never deny that fact. However it was hard to accept that everything was different now. Amari had been comfortable with her place in life, and now she had to find a different purpose. If she was to be honest she was more angry with how her family dynamic had changed since Scar's demise. How her biological mother rarely had time for her or Iniko. How Nala was a Queen?! It made her skin crawl. Her eyes opened slowly as she watched Nya crawl over to her and lean into her other side. Drawing in a deep breath she leaned her head against the larger lioness. Burying her face into that tan fur, drawing in her scent. Allowing it to comfort her, and it did but the tears continued to slip down her face for a moment.
"I think my problem is the rest of my family. I am so horribly angry at my sister, she betrayed us all by bringing Simba back here. She knew what she was doing... she knew... That's how little we mattered to her. Why didn't she just stay gone? Why did she come back and destroy so many lives without even a thought? Now she is a Queen.. My mother rarely talks to me or Iniko anymore and instead we are left to do whatever. Or we are randomly punished when she feels like "parenting" us..
Not to mention I haven't really spent any time with our new King. He seems to be avoiding anyone that shares Scar's tainted blood. Even though he allows me to watch his cubs.. It doesn't make any sense to me.."
Amari actually cared about Kiara and Kiongozi. She often watched over them when the pride hunted and was actually very good at that job. There was no hate in her heart, they had nothing to do with her father's death. That anger was reserved for a select few members of the pride. Softly she nuzzled Nya, her tears beginning to dry up. The larger of the two mentioned her carrying her father's spirit in her heart. Which made her smile slightly, indeed she was like him in many ways. It was just hard to accept.
Flexing slightly she moved to groom her twin sister, feeling her anxiety and sadness as well. They at least had each other. It was something. She also had Nya. Amari hoped in due time that Iniko and Nya would become friends. It would be nice if they could rely on one another. The same went for Ma'at. She never expected such kindness from a stranger and frankly it had shocked her at first.
"I feel like once we have our first hunts we should leave this place. Find our own place in the world?" Amari knew that they would never hold any position of power here. They would never matter due to who their sire was. Finishing her small grooming session she tucked herself closer to Nya, her head laying on one of her paws. For the moment the pale lioness felt peace, she felt at ease. Hopefully it stayed for the rest of the evening as the storm continued to rage outside.

Ma’at watched the others form a comforting pile together, while she stayed along the edge of the den. She was glad to see that venting some of their pain had brought the other lionesses some comfort. But she also worried that they still held onto their pain, as if setting it free would allow those they viewed as their adversaries to win. They were prisoners of their own revolving grief, unable and unwilling to let the others in, while lamenting that they were being treated unfairly. She wanted to make friends here, but allowing them to continue to hurt themselves couldn’t sit right with her.
Breathing deeply, she tried to choose her words carefully, though she knew much of it was probably not what they wanted to hear. “It’s hard to understand another’s intentions without first letting go of your own grievances… From what I can gather since I’ve been here, the land and the pride were much like it is now before your father ruled… You may have lived comfortably at the time of his power, being Scar’s daughters, but it didn’t seem like that was the case for much of the rest of the pride.” She listened when others within the pride spoke around her. They weren’t often afraid of her challenging their point of view because she was a stranger to them who had pledged her fealty to Simba in exchange for safety. When asked, they would talk of the hardships they faced, the starvation and the uncertainty of their future, their lack of freedom. “Hyenas were given as much favor as the lions within your hunting grounds and the pride and the land suffered for it as a whole. You were fed while others went with empty bellies. You were protected while others lived in fear for their safety. Nala could have easily left these lands and stayed there… But could you say you would have left Amari behind if you felt she was in danger? Forgotten her and moved on? I can see she has hurt you, but I’m sure she only did what she thought was right...”
“A king looks after his whole pride, not only those that suit him… No doubt Nala and the other lionesses felt as you do now… Mourning their king, their loss of status and respect, and security. Except from what I can tell you may not be as held in high regard as you wish since Simba took over, but you aren’t going hungry and aside from being given the cold shoulder by some of your fellow pride members, you are safe. You say you don’t have respect, and yet Simba and Nala allow you to look after their cubs. Their blood. Their heirs. If they didn’t trust or respect you on some level in spite of your father then why would they allow that, when you could easily cause them pain so easily? I don’t believe you would, and deep down they don’t either.” She kept her tone even, studying them with her tail twitching. “Please don’t misunderstand me… I understand your desire to want to leave. Maybe you would find somewhere you could be happy… But I also know how much worse of a situation you may find yourselves in.” Her green eyes found Nya in the dark, giving her a slight nod, “I’m sure you know as I do.”
The electricity in the air from the lightning made her mane want to stand on end, the fierce roaring from the sky chasing the light through the sky. “You don’t need to forget the past, but if you allow it then it will be like this storm… The thunder your anger, the lightning your pain, and the rain your sorrow… And through it all you will not be able to see the future in front of you. You must have a clear horizon to be able to know how to find your way.”

Nya huffed, grinning a bit to hide the fact that Iniko was right, that she had suffered had suffered a lot, in her time on this earth- her mother hated her, one of her brothers was probably her dad, feeling so... expendable to her peers, and that was only the very surface of her bad memories. But, emotional constipation kept the huge tough lioness quiet at first, trying to turn away from the walls she had built inside herself to keep that emotion from showing. Instead, sure poured her attention into Amari, the same way in which the storm was pouring water all over the land, it was a good thing, a bit of fresh water in the middle of a wasteland, sometimes crying was just good for the soul, letting it all out instead of hiding it away. It was somewhat ironic in fact, that Nya had no trouble comforting Amari with her Daddy Issues and what not, but when it came to her own emotional upheaval, she swept it under the rug and didn't want to talk about it. Part of her found this hilarious, but it was overshadowed by her empathy for the silver lioness she met all of those weeks, probably months actually, ago.
"You know that I understand that sort of thing kitten. I told you about my brothers, they betrayed me all of the time, from just tattling to mom to actual physical altercations. Your peers may have let you down but Iniko is obviously here and ready to help you take on the world."
She paused briefly to groom the back of Amari's head supportively, watching curiously as the smaller lioness folded herself into the smallest shape ever and buried herself in Nya's thick winter coat. Had she been a lighter color, the faint blush that spread across her nose would've been easy to see. Thankfully, her fur was dark enough to hide it, but her goofy grin and body language said it all even despite that. So she tried to focus on the conversation rather than what was happening. Still, subconsciously, her tail wrapped around Amari protectively as she spoke, almost unaware of it.
"And so am I." She paused as the maned lioness spoke up. At first, Nya was a little annoyed, a little skeptical, what could this fairly new stranger have to add to the conversation? But they all seemed to be acting in Amari's best interests, so the massive lioness let said stranger speak, only to find herself agreeing with much that was said. She looked back at Amari, nodding. "My oldest brother used to say this all of the time- Tomorrow is a mystery, yesterday is history, but today is a gift, that's why they call it the present. I didn't really know what it meant until I joined this pride but it makes a lot more sense now."
She paused, crossing her paws in front of her, freezing in place when Amari rested her chin on the back of the larger female's knuckles. That didn't seem like it would be comfortable, but the silver lioness was deliberate in her actions and seemed at peace at Nya's side. The massive female had never seen someone so at ease in her presence, usually her immense size and her short temper chase others away. But Amari has always been different, from the moment that they met, she was calm and accepting, welcoming even. Nya felt like she owed her something for all of that. But she did not say that out loud, knowing Amari well enough to know that she'd argue about it, feeling like helping an injured lioness was not a 'debt', it was just common courtesy. But Nya knew better. She rested her chin on the silver lioness' neck, her fur also a little fluffier than normal simply due to the time of year. It was nothing like Nya's super thick coat but she enjoyed the soft texture anyway.
"Your family doesn't define you, a title doesn't define you. Prince or princess, consort, it doesn't matter. How you act is what really establishes who you are. And you my dear are sweet and kind and all types of helpful... No matter what Simba says or does, you're very deserving of the throne. So maybe leaving is the best option, I dunno. I left my pride ages ago and it turned out pretty great so...."
She finished with a half shrug.
"Whatever you decide, I'll be here along the way. With your sister, I'm sure, and probably with..." She trailed off, using her free paw to gesture vaguely in the maned lioness' direction. Nya had been involved with Amari long enough to know her sister's name, if little else. But the maned lioness was still a stranger and Nya did not know what to call her, so she gave the other lioness a chance to introduce herself. "... Yeah, you know. I think we all just want you to be a happy kitten. So if you leave, you will not be leaving alone."

Iniko listened hard to everyone on what they had to say. Each lion came from a different pride and had their own reasons for leaving. However, Iniko had thought of running away in the past. She could not muster up enough strength to do it. One, her sister was here, and she was not going anywhere without her. Two, Scar had told her about far off prides, how the world wasn’t fair, and they weren’t kind to rogues. She believed him alright. She knew one day that they would have to make move. What about Zira and joining her lot? It seemed like the best option now. Zira knew Scar very well it seemed like the best plan of action. At least in Iniko’s mind.
“You know I had thought of running away…. Except I wouldn’t leave with Amari.” Iniko said with a frown. “I had thought perhaps Zira might be the best route She knew Scar. She knows how to lead. She saw the suffering that came.” Iniko said as she looked at her paws. Iniko felt the warmth when Amari was cleaning her fur just as she had done to her’s. She accepted it and enjoyed it. A soft rumble came from her throat as her eyes closed. Sleep could take over any minute, and she’d be fine. But she forced her eyes open. Mostly because of the constant thunder that was going on outside, that’d’ be loud enough to keep you awake at night. That’d be able to force yourself asleep as you heard the rumble in your dreams.
“What do you say, Amari? Do you want to give Zira a try? She is the closest thing we’ll get to Scar. I trust her. She is like… The only family we have left that doesn’t turn a blind eye towards us.” Iniko said. She wasn’t forcing Amari to choose. But she knew that it was better than nothing. Iniko didn't blame Amari for being mad at Nala. She knew what she was doing once she left the Pridelands to go ahead and fetch their 'beloved king.' Iniko saw nothing fancy in Simba. He seemed to do it out of desperation than anything. Simba this. Simba That. It was all that ever anyone said. And soon Scar's follower's were forgotten. They knew that one day Iniko might get her chance to be claiming the princess spot again, gain her old title back.
“I know this storm one day will turn into something great, Ma’at and Nya are right about that one.” Iniko agreed towards her newfound lionesses friends. She just hoped that they had made the right decision here in trying to become safer here. Their stories were different, yet they had the same ending where they were forced to leave. They were right on them deserving titles in the end. They wanted something in return and deserved their title as princesses again. It was only a matter of time.
A flash of thunder could be seen through the sky as the lioness knew that this storm was going to keep her awake. It was like a storm running on adrenaline as far as she was concerned. "I wish this storm would end soon. It doesn't look like it will stop any time soon. I almost drifted off to sleep earlier..." She trailed off knowing it'd be hard to sleep now.
