While Rafiki was away from the tree, collecting herbs, Valka took the chance to relax. The lessons this morning had been difficult, mostly because the baboon seemed to phrase everything as a question rather than an answer, and she wasn't even sure what he'd been trying to tell her. The blonde lioness sighed, her tail twitching as she made her way across the large area. Here and there, odd paintings adored the walls. One of Simba, now maned, caught her attention. When she'd first started coming here the image had been smudged but Rafiki had neatened it up of late and you could barely tell the king had once been believed dead.
Unlike her sister, Valka didn't hate Simba. In fact, she welcomed the changes in the pridelands - prey was more abundant, and the lands were beautiful where once they were dry. Of course she was sad that Zira was hurting but... Well, Simba's return seemed to have healed many others. Even old Rafiki seemed to have more bounce in his step. Why couldn't Zira, her sister, and several of the others move on?
A wind blew through the tree, and the ess lifted her head, listening for the spirits within them. Perhaps they could give her guidance? Help her to help her friends and family? But the voices stayed quiet, and her situation was no easier. With how things were going, there was going to be a blow-out soon.

Ma'at drew her lips back in a yawn that caught her off guard as she walked the path from Pride Rock down to Rafiki's tree. She had been up before dawn doing her best to meditate before the morning hunt, watching the stars and trying to listen for the sprits of the past kings that Rafiki told her about. It felt like ages since she had heard any sort of whispers since she arrived in the Pridelands, and she was starting to wonder if the silence was a sign that the spirits had not been leading her to this land after all. Not wanting to allow herself to grow discouraged, she hoped that talking with the old monkey would offer some insight into her feelings, and perhaps he could help guide her through her troubles.
The large tree loomed ahead of her, the landmark unmistakable with its broad trunk compared to the slim acacia that sprouted around it. Its thick growth of leaves created a welcomed cover of shade in the sun that was starting to beat down on the savannah. She circled around its base, her neck craned up towards the canopy while her darkly rimmed ears swiveled. The pale lioness couldn't hear his voice humming from up above, but it sounded as if someone was up there. Bowing into a crouch, she readied herself for the first jump and was all the more thankful that her leg had healed well from her injury. Pouncing up, her claws dug into the grooves of the tree and she scrabbled up the height with more struggle than she would admit to. Trees this large didn't grow in her old lands, and she was no leopard, but while she was larger than the spotted cats, her legs were strong and she managed.
When she had reached the top, she realized that it wasn't a mandrill in the old tree, but a lioness instead. "Oh, Valka, it is you. Sorry, I was just looking for Rafiki, but..," she glanced around the space around them, "..it seems he is out." Not in a hurry to make the trip back down the tree in case Rafiki were to come back soon, Ma'at sat to catch her breath and took the opportunity to study the colorful paintings that filled the walls formed by the branches. So much history seemed to be recorded here, and she still had barely scratched the surface beyond the most recent events that had taken place before her arrival. To put it mildly things were obviously strained among the other lionesses. She just tried to not be a burden to the pride and stayed out of the way when she could. Turning her gaze back to Valka, she could see the troubled look in her features that mirrored some of her own feelings of unease. "You look like you are also here looking for answers."
