Jasiri had been walking over to the watering hole. It was true that this place was not very welcoming or pretty much used by the Pridelanders. The Graveyard had been a place of death. Yet some how between the cracks the hyenas had found a way to strive. Jasiri never understood why her mother clanned with the other hyenas. Maybe to make sure they survived? Maybe because she wanted her children to have the best life possible? Something like that. But all Jasiri saw was devastation of the Pridelands. And because of that she and other innocent hyenas got left in the mix. Truth be told, Jasiri had never wanted to be in the Pridelands, she felt like it wasn't her home.
And yet some how she managed to get one here. Even as to being forced to hunt on the borders.
Jasiri brought her small clan over to the watering hole to get the thirsty mouths to drink. She knew that it would only be a matter of time before other hyenas got here. She didn't want to sound rude or anything. But she didn't want others to get into a fight with a clan. so once everyone got their fill they were ready to come and go. "Alright you guys let's go." She pointed out as Jasiri began to leave to head back to their dens. Of course, any stragglers would've heard all the yapping and yipping from the hyenas. They would be back around noon or so for another drink. Jasiri wanted to make sure everyone got a taste here. And keep a routine for everyone. Jasiri quickly kicked a bone out of her way as she began to walk humming a song for herself. She had no idea why but she felt like she was in a good mood.

While her sister had worried about getting the clan water, Madoa had taken it upon herself to take two of their older clan members along in the search of some much needed food. Being in the outlands again, that meant food could be hard to come by unless it was a deceased animal or left over kill from one of the other predators. Not exactly the life any of them had imagined for themselves, but they had survived in this harsh environment before, and would do it again.
Following the sounds of the yapping and yipping, Madoa recognized the distinct scent of her own clan, carrying a rather large vulture in her jaws along with her two pack members who had somewhat smaller prey in their jaws. They wouldn't be the most ideal meal, but it was something. Their clan would be starving no doubt, but it would take a trip closer to the Pridelands to get anything worthwhile. It would be something she would have to discuss with Jasiri once they met up again. But in no time, they found their clan by the watering hole, one of the few in the Outlands that could be useful yet dangerous as it tended to attract the attention of many others in desperate need of water.
"Jasiri!" Madoa called through the bird in her teeth, approaching the water side to drop her catch along with the other two clanmates. "We caught a few things. Meager, but it should at least tide us over." Madoa reported, nodding towards the younger members to come get their fill, moving around her pack to come stand at her younger sister's side. Though older, she expressed no true interest in being the pack leader, feeling Jasiri was a better fit for the role. "No signs of other hyena groups either." She added, watching their small clan which was far smaller than most, including Shenzi's own. "But I imagine Shenzi will come looking for our clan again eventually." She sighed as she sat down.

Eerie eyes had been watching the ostrich family for quite some time, they had decided to build their nest near the boundary between the pride lands and outlands. Which in her mind was fair game, she wasn't technically trespassing. Being a predator N'tombi had been gifted with a immense amount of patience. She had been hiding in some nearby brush for most of the day. Eagerly awaiting the right moment to stage a quick attack, she had no interest in taking one of the large adults. Instead she would settle for a single egg, it would be more then enough for her and her companion Jalia. Her thoughts drifted to her friend, wondering where she had gone off to. Hopefully she hadn't run into any trouble. In the distance she heard the yapping of one of the clans of hyena that lived in the Out Lands.
Her muscles tensed up as she watched the birds, knowing that time was running out. N'tombi slowly slipped out of her hiding place, trying to stay down wind of the ostrich. She knew that more then likely the parents would run away, but there was a chance the father would come back to defend his unborn offspring. She had to be fast and only take one of the eggs, that way she wouldn't destroy their family. Unlike most of her kind she respected the circle of life and didn't wish to take more then she needed. Giving a low bark, she charged forward snapping her powerful jaws to scare the large birds off. If only for a minute.
The family reacted the way she thought they would, and scattered. She arrived at the nests and quickly found a egg. It was massive, she moved it with her paws. Rolling the egg away from the nest and aiming to return to the nearby brush. Luck seemed to be on her side this evening, and just as she got her prize tucked away did the birds return. They were furious over her theft but at least she had left the other eggs alone. She hunkered down for a moment waiting for them to relax again before she would enjoy her meal.
It didn't take long for her powerful jaws and sharp teeth to pierce the egg. Cracking the top off of her delicious treat she dug in. Thankfully the egg was fresh and no fetus had begun to form. It was just yolk. She lapped at the egg for a impossibly long time, drinking her fill of the nutritious liquid. N'tombi didn't waste any either, she ate every last drop and cleaned herself off real good before leaving her hiding place behind.
Heavy paws took her back towards the Outlands, no real destination in mind currently. She however ventured to the watering hole. Hearing the yapping and whooping from there she had the urge to roll her eyes. Honestly, she wasn't a very social creature to those she didn't know. Coming upon the small group she moved to quietly get herself a nice long drink to wash down her feast. She noticed absently that the clan was eating vultures.. they had to be desperate for that sort of meal.
"How has your clan been holding up Jasiri?" She asked the clan leader softly, as she finished her drink.

Jasiri had gotten the water and thirst quenched by the hyenas, as she knew they would be back before dusk to get another drink. Hyenas were usually very smart, not given enough credit in the outlands by the other lions. Jasiri knew where the watering holes were and frequented them when they were needed. She disliked the part also about the lions not being able to get along. Surely just one of them would've been able to handle it? Or had they not found the right one yet.
Her eyes twinkled when she saw her sister come over with something to eat, it was a vulture... That didn't seem that appetizing to eat. But they were desperate to eat just about anything. Jasiri would accept it regardless. Once you got through the feathers there was meat underneath as she approved that part. "Good job Madoa you did great while hunting today." Jasiri said as she nuzzled her friend carefully. Yet there was worry on her face. Always with the worry.
She knew that they would likely have to hunt by the borders, but she also wanted to respect the borders as well as any of the prideland warriors would chase them out at a given notice. "I feel like we have no choice but to hunt at the borders. Food isn't something easily found... And yes Shenzi's group will be by here at some point. I can feel it too." Jasiri said. "Most of the time we should avoid them, they are just asking for trouble ever since they joined Scar." Jasiri said with a huff. The hyena was starting to pull off feathers from one of the vultures as it was a gross process. More of the feathers stuck to her than the bird or got removed to the ground. Some of the pups would play with them later before she ate her fill. She wanted to make sure everyone had something to eat.
That was when someone's voice came to her ears, another hyena clan leader. It wasn't that big of a surprise, many hyenas frequented the nearby water. Jasiri knew avoiding interactions was impossible. But she knew she could avoid fights, they didn't need that at all. This one seemed friendly, but she had her guard up.
"Hello Ntombi, I see you came for the same thing we did. How is your clan holding up?" She asked with a soft greeting towards the other leader out of respect. "Things are hard... They always are in the outlands." Jasiri said. "I hope you're having at least some luck. I plan on helping Madoa, my sister, go hunting later today, and that should help any hungry bellies." She added. It was true Jasiri was the leader, but she and Madoa often shared many of the tasks of pup sitting, feeding everyone, keeping out of danger and making sure they visit the watering holes frequently all an effort to keep their pack strong and healthy.

Madoa smiled softly, nuzzling her sister in a return greeting. There was comfort in knowing her sister and clan were safe when she returned to them. Like Jasiri, she always worried about their safety and their survival in such a harsh environment. It wasn’t just the lack of food or harsh conditions that were a concern, but also rival hyenas since the “one clan” had since broken up for a lot of places.
And she could share the burden of worry with her sister, maybe more so since Jasiri was still her responsibility. The mention of allying with Scar only dragged up her many reasons why she worked so hard, why she still looked out for her family. Their mother had made that desperate move to join Shenzi and Scar when she was a tad younger than her sister was now, and as a result had been lost during the total chaos of Simba’s return. “We did what we thought was best for the clan Jasiri. Shenzi’s idea...We couldn’t ignore the potential for a better life, a better future.” The older female sighed softly, shaking her head slightly as she watched her clan eat, including her sister and clan leader. “That is one thing you should always remember as a clan leader: sometimes you have to make hard decisions for the clan in the hopes it will work out.” She advised gently, resting a paw on her sister’s shoulder.
But unlike the rest of the clan, she did not eat. Not yet.
Though Madoa’s ear twitched slightly once she heard another presence, turning her gaze to see another hyena, N’tombi it she remembered correctly. She had never personally talked with the other female, but she had seen her around from time to time. And usually she wasn’t alone, a jackal often seen around her. But where was the little creature? “N’tombi.” Madoa greeted with a dip of her head, being relaxed but watchful. Even if N’tombi meant no ill-will, past experiences taught her to be ready for anything, especially way out here. So, she kept quiet after her greeting, only listening to the exchange briefly before smiling and shaking her head, “Jasiri, let me worry about the hunting today. You should be more concerned watching out for the clan’s other needs.”
