the personality

Personality • When he was younger, Kovu showed all the signs of being a wonderful pride member. He was bright, interested in everything, and just personable. But after witnessing the death of his father he has changed... He fears Simba, the new king, and so spends a lot of time away from the main pride - becoming distant and self-reliant. To most, he seems aggressive and unwelcoming but this is mostly a front - a way to keep others at arms length. But to those who persevere there is a gentle cub underneath, one who just longs to please and be loved.
Kovu likes to be the best. He wants to be one step ahead of everyone else and pushes himself to his limits regularly. It is no act that he is courageous, even heroic at times, and has a deal of selflessness. Even so, he hates it when some of the lionesses - those loyal to his parents - call him the chosen one. What would Simba do if he found out there were those who pushed for him to be king? He doesn't even want to know.

History • The sole surviving cub of a lioness called Nadhari, he was abandoned on the outskirts of the pridelands as a newborn and almost ended up as lunch for the hyena clan before Zira saved him. The queen claimed the small cub as her own, presenting him to Scar as his son, and he was quickly named the heir to the kingdom. Finally, a healthy son. Of course, being their heir came with priviledge. He never went hungry, never had to fear the hyenas, and had pretty much free reign in the pridelands. When his mother left with her hunting party he would be left in the care of Sarabi. Which is exactly where he was when Simba returned.
The fearful cub watched as the battle commenced - as a golden brute took down his father in battle, slaying him and throwing him from a cliff. It wasn't exactly a perfect introduction to his new king, and when Sarabi introduced him as her son Kovu was taken back. Over the last few months, Kovu has watched as his mother's attitude has changed and almost mimicked her. He's less friendly than he was, often striking out on his own, though he does still seek Sarabi out when he cannot find his mother.
